With today's May 21st reveal of the Xbox One, we got a ton of information about Microsoft's next generation console. One piece of news that I was particularly interested in and very happy about was the fact that it past Xbox 360 gamerscores, profiles, and avatar information will be transferred over to the new system. I would assume that this also means that Xbox Live accounts will carry over, so we won't have to buy brand new year passes to play Call of Duty on the new Xbox.

I'm very happy that the gamerscores and profiles will carry over, as it means I won't have to start a whole new friends list and try to find and reconnect with all my friends. It also mean that I won't lose my 20,000 gamerscore that I built up over the last 6 years!

What do you guys think about the gamerscores and profiles transferring? Are you glad to hear the news? Or were you looking forward to starting over with a new profile and clean slate?

Individual games will be tied to Xbox Live accounts, Microsoft said, meaning that the software giant can detect whether a game has been sold to a retailer and repurchased, or handed from one friend to another. In such instances, the second user must pay a fee.

"On the new Xbox, all game discs are installed to the HDD to play," a Microsoft representative told Wired.

The company added that, once discs are installed on the hard drive, games can be played without a disc being in the tray.

The Wired article then elaborates: "What follows naturally from this is that each disc would have to be tied to a unique Xbox Live account, else you could take a single disc and pass it between everyone you know and copy the game over and over. Since this is clearly not going to happen, each disc must then only install for a single owner."

It added: "Microsoft did say that if a disc was used with a second account, that owner would be given the option to pay a fee and install the game from the disc, which would then mean that the new account would also own the game and could play it without the disc."

Microsoft did not disclose what the second-user fee would amount too, and did not clarify further on the matter.

The article claims that there is no sweeping 'always-online' requirement for future Xbox One games.

Microsoft has filed a new trademark...

Microsoft has filed a new trademark for the word "Forzavista." Using our detective-like intuition, we've determined it probably has something to do with the Forza Motorsport series, possibly something that will be revealed during tomorrow's "Xbox Reveal" event. Further speculation points to a renaming or expansion of the series' "Autovista" feature, which allows players to get up close and personal with many of the game's cars.

Okay, so it's not so much speculation as it is exactly what's described by the trademark itself. Specifically, the trademark refers to "A feature of interactive video game software which allows players to obtain statistical information of internal and external features of a vehicle and to virtually navigate and operate those vehicles."

Be sure to tune into Joystiq on Tuesday, May 21, for more live coverage of Microsoft's event than you can shake a stick shift at.

Since the release of Xbox Fusion is coming soon and right around the corner, I'd like to ask what your first purchase for the game will be. There are many games which I'm excited for like saints row IV, GTA5, or call of duty ghosts. I think personally, I'm going to buy saints row first. I prefer it over the others because the out of the official videos released, saints row goes in depth with it. There is a hint of gameplay video, and sneak peaks of new weapons. All I've seen for gta5 were seperate trailers for each character and their background information, and for ghosts, only a ~30 second long trailer with basically nothing in it.

What about you guys?

What if Sony and Microsoft didn't publish different systems? What if the two companies torn down the wall separating them and joined forces to make a console that played both PlayStation and Xbox titles? Friendship is magic after all.

While we listen to rumors and wait for Microsoft to announce it's new console, the dreamers over at TechRadar have sketched out the PlayBox – a console concept that would harness the strengths of both companies and be backwards compatible with all past PlayStation and Xbox games.

What do you think of such a project? Do you see any benefits of having more than one console maker?

Source: Gameinformer

Sony and Microsoft would dominate the game industry and kill any other consoles in its path if they did this. It would never happen and it would be bad for the industry honestly. Right now we have choices to choose from, which makes them rethink their strategies and price tags. If they came together and took over everything, they'd probably charge a huge price for it, huge price for the online service, and games would be expensive. Nintendo would die completely and it would just be another name like Sega and Atari.

Microsoft has registered multiple domains related to the term Xbox Fusion. Spotted by Fusible...

Microsoft has registered multiple domains related to the term Xbox Fusion. Spotted by Fusible, Microsoft picked up XboxFusion.com, XboxFusion.info, XboxFusion.biz,XboxFusion.de and XboxFusion.co.uk, among others.

Speculation about the name being called “Xbox Fusion” isn’t anything new. But what separates “Xbox Fusion” and only a few other names from the rest of the list, is that not only does Microsoft own the dot-com (WHOIS), it owns a slew of other domains like XboxFusion.info, XboxFusion.biz, XboxFusion.de, XboxFusion.co.uk – the list goes on and on.

The new URLs don’t tell us anything for sure, but domain names have served as indicators of Microsoft’s plans in the past. Back in February, Microsoft registered an Xbox Event website that did indeed end up being used to register for its upcoming console reveal event.

Currently, XboxFusion.com redirects visitors to Xbox.com, while XboxNext and XboxGold redirect users to Bing.
Hello and welcome to Xbox Wire. It’s an exciting year for Xbox – we’re counting down the days until May 21, when a new generation of entertainment is revealed. Our team has been working incredibly hard and we have so much good news to share with you.

In preparation, we’re launching Xbox Wire – a news blog to help you keep up with the latest Xbox news. You will be able to follow our journey as we bring you the best in games and entertainment and along the way we’ll introduce you to the people, places and technology that bring it all to life.
You’ll see some familiar faces on Xbox Wire. Our executives will write blogs occasionally, but most of our blogs will be from everyday people on the Xbox team. Our own Major Nelson will appear as well – both via blog posts and through interviews – of course, Major’s fans can also continue to follow along with him at MajorNelson.com. I’m lucky to spend my time at work living and breathing all things entertainment and I’m excited to serve as your editor here at Xbox Wire.

We’re currently in beta mode, but expect to graduate by May 21. In the meantime, enjoy the latest Xbox news and send any feedback on what stories you’d like to see to xboxwirenews@microsoft.com or @lisagurry. What do you guys think about Xbox introducing a tablet like controller like the Wii U or a touch pad on the controller like the PlayStation 4? Do you think it might introduce some cool features for games to use and do different things that you normally couldn't do or might be harder?

A new rumor may have provided the first details about Microsoft’s next console and controllers. According to The Verge, anonymous sources suggest that the new console is “smaller and denser” than the Xbox 360 with “newly designed controllers that are said to be ‘flattened’ in appearance.”

Microsoft is also said to be prepping a new dashboard update for the Xbox 360 to prepare for the transition to its new console. The update will reportedly enter beta in late June or early July with a final release planned for August, and will feature a user interface update to more closely align with smaller Live Tiles like those coming to Windows 8.1. Microsoft is also allegedly “tweaking the look of the Xbox dashboard, with the possibility of darker or lighter themes.”

The Verge’s report also suggests that Microsoft “is aiming to ensure Xbox 360 users can transition over to the next-generation console and interact with existing Xbox 360 users using messaging, beacons, and achievements.” Their sources also reportedly confirmed last week’s rumor that Microsoft will abandon Microsoft Points in its new console and say that the reveal event for the console will include details about its integrated broadcast TV features.

For now, all of this is just a rumor, but we’ll find out official details in just four days when Microsoft reveals its next-gen Xbox on May 21st.
I would love to have something like this and I would probably participate in more tournaments if there were some sort of achievements or trophy's for winning.

Rumor: Microsoft planning Xbox 360 dashboard update in preparation for Next-Gen Xbox

The next-Xbox could use a new interface, different than the Xbox 360 dashboard. Microsoft would like to prepare its Xbox clients to the next-gen and the new Infinity dashboard with a new dashboard for Xbox 360.

This new version will go into beta stage in late June or early July, the final version should be ready in August. What changes could we expect? Smaller Live tiles, very similar to the Windows 8.1 ones. Slight changes in the dashboard look, with the possibility of lighter or darker themes.

Microsoft wants to make easier the transition between the two generations and provide players with a new interface to connect the Xbox 360 users with the Durango ones. I guess you will be able to chat, visit profiles and see achievements from Xbox users with Infinity.

Moreover, the source confirms the elimination of the Microsoft Points system for the next-gen. In summary: new dashboard for Xbox 360 to match with the new Xbox dashboard and forget the Microsoft Points system (yeah!) forever.

What if you could get that old gamertag that's been inactive for years or never used? What if Microsoft allowed us to use the old gamertags or names that have never been used on Xbox with the next-generation Xbox? Some names haven't been used because they are used on other Microsoft LIVE services such as Zune.

I think it would be awesome if they had a specific time frame that inactive accounts would become available again after going silver. Say 6 months after its been silver/inactive, make it available to the public again. And you could keep track of how many times its been transferred owners like they have the numbers now for how many years you've been on Xbox LIVE.
